I do agree with you Hotzcatz,
What I see in this fast food influx in Pahoa is investment. It is aided by the Puna Community Development Plan which gave instruction to the franchises and Long's as to where to best locate their businesses. I won't complain about the location... I will hope we can have some say as to the look and feel.
Puna has been starved for business planning (on purpose) for decades. Anyone wanting to invest was faced with making a costly gamble on seeking zoning changes or Special Use Permits. This is why I describe the Puna business plan prior to the PCDP as being three words: Drive To Hilo. This business development announcement, whether you like KFC or not, shows the benefit of having a CDP make it into law. Let business know where they are welcome and they will go there.
Investment often breeds investment. I will hope that this coming development at Woodland Center (bye, bye trees) will give confidence to other investors that Pahoa is a place where business investment can take place.
Now if we could just get some zoning for a modest business park on the transfer station road..... one thing at a time.
