Using Rumber for Fencing
#13
Rumber's best test result is compressive. Where #2 Doug Fir generally has a compressive strength of 1,000 psi Rumber has a compressive strength of 23,000 psi. This makes it ideal for plate material. In stick framing the bottom plate, where the wood rests on the concrete and carries the weight of the building, is where rot usually starts and crushing occurs. Rumber would be ideal in this application. No framers use it though.
Assume the best and ask questions.
