Thanks for this thread, it is thought provoking at the very least and some of the posts shared opinions we do not always get to hear. I think what Rob has done with this forum is fantastic. With a virtual community, there are always going to be a variety of opinions, loudmouths, lunatics and usually lots of really great folks, some who post, some who lurk and some who are extremely active. I like the idea that people can come together here. Our world is changing and Punaweb is obviously changing too. It is easy to ignore the posts that don't really appeal to us, but lurking and not engaging about positive things is not the answer either. I have only been here a year, and until we were sure we were moving to Hawaii, I did not engage much. With the move (6 days 9 hours to go) I naturally find Punaweb as a lifeline to the community we are going to be part of.
Thanks Rob for all the work you have done to create and maintain the site. Your gentle moderation and dedication to the Punaweb community is what has brought us all here. Personally, I have not found any posts offensive, though some posters appear to be on the rabid side. I either don't read those threads or at the very least don't add fuel to the fire by posting to them. Eventually those threads have a way of petering out. Even if they don't, the ignore feature is a good idea and I believe that by creating a place for people to express themselves is a positive thing. It is sort of like TV or Movies, you watch what you want and don't watch what you don't think you will like.
On a final note, I too find the gardening and non-classified sections preferable much of the time.
