Yes, thank you Menehune ... I agree too ...
and for whatever way I am part of the problem, I apologize.
Punaweb topics have depressed me lately.
We are in a recession but I need to have some break from focusing on a grim future.
Crime is around, and that's nothing new when it comes to theft, but the "solutions" now are so full of threats to blow people away, whatever happened to knowing your neighbor and taking sensible precautions instead of talking violence?
I really don't want to read posts about shooting, maiming, or otherwise harming other human beings, hypothetical or real, unless some violence has indeed happened and is news, of which we should be aware. But this "under siege" mentality is driving me away.
Punaweb as I encountered it was a place where newbies could learn about this new place from people who live here. But of late there is less willingness to learn and adapt and a lot of "I'm bringing my values and expectations with me, and screw everyone here if they don't like it, this is America."
While there is free speech, there is a privately hosted community, and I always thought that Punaweb tried to be better (than say Konaweb) by having a collective understanding that it doesn't work to bring mainland ways here and force them on Puna/East Hawai'i. (I don't live in Puna, but I do live in East Hawai'i and consider we all have a commonality.)
I thought Punaweb was a place to learn how not to move here as the "ugly haole mainlander" equivalent to the ugly American that roams the world.
Two years ago, when the economy was booming along, there was more optimism about moving here than maybe is warranted now. Optimism makes for a fun site. This last year there have been more troubles to speak of, less reason to encourage people to come even if they don't have a job or much savings. I have been part of the negativity in that respect.
However, I feel that to encourage people to come if there's a chance they'll end up destitute is not something I'm comfortable with ...
Point being, the tone is bound to be down a little with so many folks hurting, yet we can still be kind to each other.
Lastly, I am not very political and although I can avoid overtly political topics, I hate it when every topic about what's going on gets infused with political diatribes.
I am against using IGNORE as a problem solver. Those not using ignore who I am not ignoring [] will quote partially or refer to the comments from ignorees [:p] and there I am seeing only part of the conversation and that's as annoying as reading the annoying posts. Besides which, few if any people here are so bad as to be ignored 100%, at least for me. []
Thank you for listening Rob.
