You're right that slaughtering animals is not new. The difference is that it used to be a more local process that more people took part in. Our food is now manufactured by mega corporations where the waste alone lies piled by the acre. I'm not a vegetarian, and I'm not trying to be a propagandist, but "old school" works for me.
If you can, compare a locally produced egg, from a yardbird free of hormones and antibiotics to a commercial egg..... viva le difference!
