It's a good day to clean and repair the rain gutters. Also examine your ground water run off paths for debris or items which would inhibit water flow and cause back ups.
Once heavy rains start up it's tough to go out side and deal with it.
I experienced the 29 inches in 24 hours here in Pahoa in 2000 and got to learn some things about my house site which sits in a high location.
My garage was not as fortunate and I learned to make improvements in directing ground water.
Today is a very good day to look these issues over. It's also a good day to check candle supplies and fuel up those kerosene lamps. Oh yeah, and if the rains get heavy by all means stay off the roads.
