HPP Robbery- Paradise and 8th on Friday
#19
When a Vet takes in a new dog or cat they do regularly scan the animal's microchip for ID purposes, or at least they are supposed to. Unless the chip number has been reported missing, nothing would happen, it would just be recorded on the animal's records. They use a small gun that looks like a radar gun to get the information from the animals. Our vet in CA did it on our dogs so that they would also have a record of the chip numbers too. There was a friend of mine in CA who never registered her chip with contact information and when she lost her dog they were able to find her through the vet. We have not gone to the vet here yet so I have no idea how they operate here. As in many things it may be quite different than on the mainland.

Aussie/Border Collies are very intelligent dogs and they stand our here amongst the poi dogs, so you have a good chance of someone noticing him. Maybe the paper could even run a story if you find the right reporter, it is a great human interest story. Offer a reward and your chances of finding him increase further. Also if you can find him, you may also be close to finding your computer etc.

Totogirl, I would make "lost" posters of your dog with photos and take them to every vet & shelters, on both sides of the island. You could mail them to Kona/Kohala Give the microchip # as well as any other ID. There are many community bulletin boards where you can also put up a flyer. The more people that know about this the better. Even Walmart has a bulletin board in their pet department.

Kathy, even if the dog is purebred, without the actual AKC registration the dog is no more valuable than any other unless it is just someone who wants a specific breed and they do not care about papers. Many breeds have hereditary problems and for those that do, people want proof about soundness. Also, the dog cannot be shown or be used as brood stock without the papers.
