There was a letter to the editor last December about a tense situation near the lighthouse. I ran a search and found it but I don't subscribe to the Tribune archives so I can't see the whole article. This is what comes up:
"No room for racism
Recently a friend of ours was fishing near the lighthouse in Puna by himself. Three men, big in stature, approached him. Without saying anything, they proceeded to assault him -- very violently, I might add -- then walked away like nothing ever happened.

Is there some kind of territorial attitude or localism with respect to the lighthouse area?
