In the past I've used Big Isle Moving & Draying for local moves, because they charge a bit less. Some of their guys are good and one or two are not so good. Normally the company that picks up your container at the port and brings it to your property also unloads, and charges by the hour for the entire thing ... you are not transporting your own container, are you? So that's a starting point.
Professional movers charge by the hour whether they are standing around or picking things up, in my experience, so unless your heavy pieces are right there when they open the container, you might as well get them to whisk the stuff out of the container.
I never had the option to use the movers for a partial unload, as the container transport needed to be done in one trip, both ways. They bring the container, unload, remove container ... unless you have bought the container. So I'm not understanding the whole picture of how you have planned this.
Note: on the California side we had Matson do the container drop off and pick up, while we hired mover friends for packing the container only, but on the Hawai'i side, Matson did not offer delivery to our site. Young Brothers brought the container into port and it was all on us from there.
I see there a couple new to me local movers in the phone book. One is Express Movers, who say they beat any estimate and no move too small. 557-0300. Also Town & Country Moving & Storage at 969-1911,
