juker, it's interesting that with your only second posting on PW you pointed out the inaccuracy in my signature, but, regardless, thank you for doing it. Apparently, when I signed up on this forum I signed up as "John S Rabi" and after I became "idle" for a while I signed up again as "John S. Rabi" so there is a discrepancy in the signatures since back then I was a member of NAR.
I have been using Explorer to post on the forum for the past few years, but Explorer was down a few days ago and I accessed the forum through another browser that still had my original information saved. I didn't realize the difference.
Joining many of the other real estate companies here, my company (and I and all my agents) have not been members of any real estate organization for four(?) years. In fact, all of our material clearly indicate that we are "proudly not associated and affiliated" and if you check my postings here for the past few years you will see my signature does not include the "R" (realtor) designation.
We save about $5,000 a year (that's $20,000 for the past four years!) by not paying membership fees to these organizations that I clearly consider "country clubs" and trust me neither I nor any of my agents ever want to be part of those. We self subscribe to the same code of ethics as other real estate agents and that is also indicated in our company disclosure. If you are interested to know why we joined the list of other non-member companies feel free to e-mail me privately for more information. You can also check out my company history on my web site.
I have been a licensed real estate broker in Hawaii for 15 years. Realtor doesn't mean licensed, it means the person is a broker and is a member of NAR. It has nothing to do with licensing, knowledge or ethics.
Thank you again and I hope Rob will delete my "John S Rabi" account.
Aloha,
