juker. I took John's statement to mean that you don't need to be a Realtor to be licensed. That not being a Realtor and NAR member is not equal to unlicensed and unethical.

My observation of certain island realtors in action tells me that belonging to NAR and thus officially subscribing to their code of ethics, does not necessarily mean the broker OBSERVES the code of ethics. And as for the local boards, it is a big problem that they oversee the ethics of people that they work with in negotiations, and can't necessarily afford to rub certain brokers the wrong way. I made an ethics complaint here, through the Hiol board, and guess what, the agent in question was a member of the Ethics Committee. Then when we got the list of potential committee members for the hearing, the list included agents who worked for that brokerage, and I had to object to them, when they shouldn't have ever been on the list. My own former agent quit Kona Board, even though she works and lives Kona side. The Hilo club being a better organization than the Kona Board ...
