Most expensive groceries in the country...
Individual pay for teachers used to be openly accessible

Yes.
And when it was, very few earned the $100,000 a year you often claimed was a teacher’s salary .

Never said they all did. Stop deflecting. The point is that there are some that do earn over $100k, even here in the Pahoa schools.

Yeah and something just north of 50k for starters, and tapping out around 75k unless they have post graduate degrees under their belt..

So, Dude, where in the heck*, let's say on Oahu, Maui (have you grokked the cost of house there lately?), the West Side of the Big Island, anywhere but the slums of Puna, can someone live for that? Could they buy a house? Get a new vehicle every so many years? Raise a family? Pay for all the incidentals, the insurance, the deductibles, the birthdays and Christmas, fuel to go back and forth.. where?

Your need to disparage is so tiring. So boorish, so right wing unable to think logically.. so unrealistic it's really holding you back from ever acknowledging reality, let alone loving your neighbors. Being apathetic.. appreciating their struggles.

And yeah, I called you MAGA, you say you are not but man your words say otherwise. Even Ronald Reagan would be disgusted with the MAGA point of view. Even Darth Cheney was sick of MAGA's pathetic cowardly BS. But you seem proud.

Edge - I have to foam soy milk for my carefully calculated first cup of coffee too!
Was guessing it was from you being several minutes farther to the east, but perhaps foamed soy milk topped caffeine is the real secret to your early bird success, while here I am waiting for plant leaves to steep in hot water while watching the bamboo sway in the forest in the dawn breeze like some medieval peasant. Woe is me, guess I'll just have to accept my losses. :)

No, really? It's not like I already linked to them earlier. You want to prove you actually understand the chart and show how starting teachers in Hawaii do not actually make in the ~$50-60k range as I and MyManao have said?

leilanidude - Individual pay for teachers used to be openly accessible but now has to be done via a FOI request.
Neat, and? You want to try and dox the possible handful of teachers in Pahoa that have a PhD, and post PhD education, and 30+ years of teaching in Hawai'i and therefore make that top $100K possible and what, blame them for the prices everyone pays at Malama's? What does any of this have to do with the price of tea in China, much less the price of groceries in Puna?

I thought you hit this point way back on page 2 as well - "I think the more important question is why would anyone begrudge helping those in need?" While it's clear those so inclined are deeply unemphatic, incurious people, who obviously don't read and can't recognize or admit when they're wrong, I've been wondering if they're actually pulling a fast one as they really enjoy being publicly shamed as part of their whole "tread on me harder daddy" inclinations? Why else would you keep showing up saying the dumbest things imaginable, which are trivial to disprove, just to be beaten down again and again unless they get off on it in some way? Perhaps they Can't Buy a Thrill, but can get it for free on Punaweb and we're all just fools to do their dirty work but stay here just the same...

Leave it to those faithful believers to have gone and modernized that famous fancy "Don't Tread On Me" flag that some fly, wear proudly, and/or display on their pick up truck bumpers right above the hanging chrome testicles:

The very lowest starting pay is $62,054 (check the 12 month schedule as most are not hired on the 10 month schedule) but there is also a stipend for Puna and some other complexes that adds anywhere from a $2000 moving bonus, plus up to $10,000 in additional stipends, especially if one has Special Education or ESL certifications.

In any case, you keep referencing starting pay when the conversation was NOT about starting pay at all. Again, another deflection. I have no issue with teachers making $100k+ but somehow, several of you refuse to acknowledge there ARE teachers making over $100k and that no teachers are making under $50k in Hawaii and if you can read the chart and understand the difference between a 10 month contract and a 12 month contract.

Someone said AI was stupid. Let's see:

"Are most Hawaii teachers hired on 10 or 12 month contract?"

Most Hawaii public school teachers are hired on 10-month contracts. These teachers typically work during the academic school year, with salaries often paid over 10 months, although options may exist to spread pay over 12 months. While 10-month contracts are standard, 12-month positions are generally reserved for specific administrative or year-round roles.

Key details regarding Hawaii teacher contracts:

10-Month Structure: The majority of teachers work 10-month, 180+ day contracts.

12-Month Structure: Used for specific, specialized, or year-round positions, featuring higher salary caps compared to 10-month contracts ($121,943 vs $101,861, for example).

Contract Terms: Current collective bargaining agreements (2023-2027) set these terms and include 14.5% raises over four years.

Salary Payment: While the work is done over 10 months, some teachers may receive or choose to receive payments over a 12-month period to maintain steady income.

Overall, the Hawaii Department of Education indicates that the vast majority of classroom teachers fall into the 10-month category.

leilanidude - most are not hired on the 10 month schedule

Again, you demonstrate that you know nothing about how DOE actually works in Hawaii. Just go read something for once in your life instead of making stuff up, like SNAP causing high grocery prices, and $11K EITC for $48K income earners, and on, and on...

https://hawaiipublicschools.org/2025-hid...pensation/
and
https://hawaiipublicschools.org/wp-conte...4-2025.pdf

Most Hawaii teachers are 10-month employees that start out with no prior experience (the lowest left corner of the pay chart so $50k-$60k as previously stated). The current average for all teachers is like ~$78k given their additional professional development and experience. Those with more credentials like Special Education and ESL make more money - as would be expected for any job candidate with extra training and credentials. Making over $100K takes a PhD, plus more education, plus 30+ years experience. If some of those top-paid teachers work in the Pahoa system, then they've most certainly earned that pay and the schools are lucky to have the benefit of their expertise and experience.

As you say you have no problem with this, then what is your point in raising it? How does it relate to the price of groceries, which is the topic thread? In short, WTF are you on about this time (you naughty, naughty boy, lick that boot like you mean it... Maybe Punaweb needs a paid tier, only for the fans ;)

Silly me, I employed a simple proofread and verified it BEFORE I posted it!
