Any Rain Forecast?
#11
Tom: Thanks for the additional info. One of these days maybe I will get serious about figuring out how the whole global convection currents and pressure dynamics work. For the past while (tonight) I have been lost in the Andromeda galaxy link you posted on another thread. Thanks for sharing. Somehow looking outward at the greater universe makes worldly problems seem so trivial.

And PunaMauka2: Yes I have been considering more conservation too, but we currently have an elderly house-guest living with us and a couple from the mainland will be arriving tomorrow for a few days. But I do remember the 12 day run of no water or power after Iselle and what it means to lug water up a flight of stairs to wash a few dishes and flush the toilets. I plan to be spending some time at a laundromat and am also considering hiring a water hauler before the situation gets too critical.

steve1 - thanks for that reply. It's always nice to see some appreciation for the work scientists do and am very happy the Andromeda link gave you some pause for thought!

As for water, I don't know how long you have lived here so hope I'm not being patronizing, but in the periods when we've had serious drought in Puna the water hauling companies become really backed up and it can take a few days, perhaps a couple of weeks, between ordering water and having it delivered. Assuming you're on catchment, I'd suggest not waiting too long before requesting a water delivery. You can always cancel it if we get a downpour.

We have low-flow everything: toilets, showers, HE washing machine, etc but we do have to use some water on livestock and some younger trees and bananas that aren't established enough to weather the drought. All that considered, the last time we had a dry spell this long I was surprised when I looked into the catchment tank and saw how little had been used up.

Was THRILLED to get the rain last night...do not know how much fell, but it was music to my ears! Amazingly the head congestion I've had for the past few days started to clear up. Hope we get a little more! Does anyone know how much fell in Mountain View last night?

Best wishes

Only a couple of drops on the cars this morning. Just enough to make the dust stick. Darn.
