Paying GET is no big burden.

Forcing expensive FedEX is a bigger burden. I have no problem paying GET if it also means I can choose cheap USPS shipping, but that's not how it works.

Do you mean through Amazon?
Most big shippers have a negotiated rate with the carrier of their choice, or as with Amazon, almost all carriers.
My rate with FedEx is about half of what USPS would charge me. Right now, I can ship a 3# box to Maui overnight for about $2.60 on FedEx. And they'll pick it up at my door. USPS Priority would be what, $14? And a 15 mile drive that requires a couple gallons of gas.
