Christmas Eve.
May we enjoy a silent night tonight.
Perhaps with a visit from the Big Claus himself, or his elves. If you're lucky and you've been especially nice this year, maybe even Blue Beard or the Pied Piper.

Here's a brightly decorated street scene from Honolulu in the 1940's. It may have been after the war ended, when martial law with its curfew and lights out policy were finally rescinded. When a sense of relief and normalcy returned to the islands after four long years of foreboding and uncertainty:
