AT&T Cell Reception in HPP - Tower Permit Denied

How is it that Verizon has good service in HPP without a 200' tower? Or is it located somewhere I haven't seen? They may not be dangerous but they're sure as shootin' ugly. The one that just went up on 130 at the church is beyond intrusive.

Islandlvng, what if someone thinks your house is ugly? Are you going to tear it down? What about all the people in HPP that have junkyards on their property? I don’t see anyone protesting those! Maybe we should outlaw all those “ugly” catchment tanks and force people to drill wells?

I believe Verizon has their transmitter at the church on Hwy 130. AT&T’s closest towers are almost twice as far away in Keaau & Pahoa, so their signal is comparably weaker in HPP, especially as you head toward the ocean.

I think in the past people wanted improved cell service, without dropped calls, roaming, and crackling. Now, with Verizon covering the island, people who gravitated to the Verizon network (I for one) wouldn't gain any improvement in service if a competing carrier builds a tower in their view. They’ll only see disadvantages.

There's quite a tall cell tower on 13th in HPP between Paradise and Makuu. I read some posts on social media complaining about it.

I think this was a blessing in disguise for HPPOA. It may have saved HPP from another lawsuit. According to the two other board of directors, there was no final go ahead by the board. Did the so called president go rogue and sign a contract? He's suing HPPOA and participating in a coup with the general manager. He has no authority to act on HPP's behalf while the lawsuit is going on. He's a liability right now and shouldn't be signing any contracts for HPP.

Verizon's legal team would probably have done more good than harm.

I have AT&T and poor reception between Mountain View and Keaau. I wonder if these towers would have remedied that? Might be time for a switch to Verizon.

For sure a Kurtistown tower would solve your problem. In this area Verizon provides much better reception at this time so you may want to switch because it doesn't appear the tower will be happening anytime soon, if ever.
