is there anything we can trust right now, either from the state or the media?
We can trust that they both will get the information wrong at various times and to varying degrees. This was true with the lava in 2018 and still true today. Unfortunately there are no possible boots on the ground to correct these mistakes; fortunately there really doesn't need to be.
The exact number of cases and deaths doesn't matter. Whether it's 2, 5, 10, or 20 confirmed, the actual count in reality is higher and only getting bigger quickly. Like the flow building momentum towards Kapoho, the exact foot by foot outline of the lava today isn't as important as its large shape and overall direction. Act like the virus is all around you (as it is) regardless of the exact confirmed numbers based on the data gathered several days ago.
