Hawaiian Airlines refuses to refund our tickets

Yes, that’s how we found out that Hawaiian denied our refund. H.A’s response was we knew what the policy was and were therefore not entitled to a refund since the tickets were non-refundable.
What gets me is why they sent an email that said we could get a refund with directions on how to do it.
