Wow! I have lived here for 15 years and do not consider myself a "newbie" except for here on Punaweb. A friend suggested I join this forum because the debate was spirited and fun. I now find it is mean spirited and just another "high school" clique.[V] Guess, I go away and you can all play in your own little sandbox. So much for aloha.

Classy response, some people don't agree with you so you bail. Now that is "high schoolish." BTW, interestingly, nobody came to the defense of your candidate and that should tell you something. I agree with lquade, we don't need career politicians like Abercrombie.

1 point for Eastside and 0 for Larry Moe and Curly.
Ahhhh see what you went and did John, Pog and Lquade? Not as good at being assholes as me but none the less, you're all “a-holish” enough to drive off the new members (you need to know when to be an A-hole and when not to be, all good A-holes know this). Good thing you still have me to attempt kicking around though; eh? I know in each of you stooges there is a frightened little girl crying to get out. My moneys on the guy who's not in the closet and knows who he is. Come on back Eastside, let's have some fun with these 3 misguided screwballs.
Edit to add -
Heads up Eastside: Punaweb is best navigated after a cold Cerveza or 2. Also... Aloha and welcome to Punaweb

Abercrombie all the way!
With a name like "Mufi" for a "man", something has to be out of kilter somewhere.
Can't trust a gent who retains his seat till the last hour when running for another office.

So if we don't want to get a "career politician" like Abercrombie as govenor, we could vote for a career politician like Mufi, or a career politician like Duke? They are all career politicians and one of them is going to be the next governor. I don't see the point in singling out any one of them as a "career politician", they all are. If you have specific issues with Abercrombie's positions by all means tell us, but to criticize only him as a career politician, when that is the case with all the front running candidates, doesn't make sense.
So John and lquade, who is a viable candidate in this race who isn't a career politician?

Carol, I would have said the same thing about both Mufi and Duke, but the thread wasn't about them, it was about Abercrombie. Lets face it, his resignation cost a lot of money to the State, there is no question about it, and him dismissing it with a shrug "We had money for the re-election!" shows that he didn't care much about it. What a mil here or there for people like him. Unfortunately, the person who would be a good candidate is not running. [V][V][V] Not that I have anyone in mind, but instead of a career politician we would need a career businessman with no ties to special interest groups.

ME: Can I make my own criterion then, since they are all three career politicians? I will go with 'tall, dark and handsome'. I have to pull a democratic ballot so I can vote for Marzi...I will NOT vote for Abercrombie because of his voting record at the national level, in particular the 'yes' vote he cast last June for the Waxman-Markey Bill, aka, Cap n Trade. I know he brings that same mindset to Hawaii and will no doubt support if not out right push to have similar legislation passed for this state. It contains some very onerous requirements. It was the 1900 page bill NONE of them read. I downloaded it last year and read it. I would never vote for anyone who would vote yes to anything with such invasive and over reaching properties as does that bill especially when it was made a public joke to have the bill speed read because it hadn't been read by the very elected officials who were voting 'aye'! So, for me, Tall, Dark and Handsome is it. Since they are career politicians, and party affiliated, I have no expectations of feeling really good about my vote but if I am left with the lessor of two evils as they say...I will go with the person I hope will not approve radio frequency devices that can be monitored and changed remotely by the power company when they 'allege' the power needs for the grid require it; or, a vote to require everyone who wants to sell their home to have it retrofitted and approved by a government agency as 'energy star' rated BEFORE they can even put their home on the market. Though many of us just fought and won a review and amendment to the building code which would have required everyone on this island to build our homes according to the international energy code designed for different types of climate than we experience here, if the US Senate ever decides to pick up the discussion and adopt the Congressional bill from last year and then the house and senate pass it into law, all that work we did to exempt our homes here will be for nothing! And that is just ONE bill!
Thank you for being reasonable enough to point out all 3 of them are career politicians. I sure hope whoever is elected to the state level they work to overturn this ridiculous need to declare at the primary what party's ballot you want to pull. I have some candidates who are running on the democratic ticket and other on other tickets I want to vote for and I surely don't want to vote for someone just because they are the lessor of two problematic choices. Lamentable...sorry

Mufi ran for office here on the Big Island as C. Brewers boy. He lost and quickly moved to Oahu. I can't consider him anything more than an opportunist.

Yeah, I think I read about somebody like that living on Mars... I mean, seriously? A businessman? A businessman is, by definition, not interested in the public welfare. He is self-interested. His special interest is to line his pockets with profits, and if he deigned to run for public office, I would question his motives (unless he was a gazillionaire and had grown weary of the prospect of making yet more money)... If there was more profit in regulating the hell out of your life, he would do that in a heartbeat.
