Aloha Mella & the other Metal Roofers,
HPM and Pierson are the only two folks on this side of the island who have the machine to make the different roofing patterns out of sheet metal. Everyone else gets their roofing from them with the exception of Home DePot who brings it in already made.
Also, when ordering roofing, they will make it and cut it to just about any length you want (up to twenty feet, I think it was) but they only run certain patterns at certain times so it is always best to call ahead and find out WHEN (not if) you will be able to get the roofing you want.
The "old style" metal roofs were rafters at 4' o.c. and 2" x 3" purlins @ 2' o.c. with tin either nailed or screwed to the purlins. No interior ceilings and they could get really loud in the rain! Of course, this is no longer to code, but that's how they were built for years.
Oh, when fastening down your roofing the screws go in at the TOP of the ribs, not in the valleys. Less leaks that way.
A hui hou,
Cathy
