For you others who can't look past my bias views on this race. I ask that you imagine...
Oh for chrissakes, Beachboy.
Do you hate Micronesian children, too, I wonder?
Because some day down the line they're going to grow up to be Micronesian adults?

Your niece's rape, though regretable and horrendous and sad in the extreme, has absolutely nothing to do with the ethnicity of the perpetrator. It has to do with the person's gender, anger-issues, and lack of self-control.

Sound familiar?

On a related note, a dear friend's beautiful 6-year-old daughter was bludgeoned to death here in Puna, back in 2001. By a 14-year-old African-American boy with the IQ of a 4-year-old.

Does this woman spend an inordinate amount of time encouraging her remaining children, her nieces and nephews, her acquantainces, and her friends to hate all African Americans on sight? All 14-year olds? All males? Anyone with a mental deficiency?

No.

She's wise enough not to judge people on the basis of watever "group" they happen to have been born into. She teaches, she leads by positive example.

Rather than defending your bitter unflinching racist positions, Beachboy, you'd do better to forgive -- or at least seek counseling.

If not for your own sake, for the sake of your children.
And that of your beloved niece.

This forum is a great source of knowledge and information. It's one of the few sites that I visit every day to learn about what might be going on in this part of the world. It's a great place for insight on what's going on in Puna.

I also try to participate when I can. It's hard when you've got your hands full with work, family,... life in general. However, I share when I can. Most of the time, I admit, I just listen and learn.

The threads can sometimes be irritating and bothersome. However, I have learned to simply ignore threads that bother or frustrate me.

Discussions can sometimes go out of control so I can understand the need to control and maintain order. If it becomes too chaotic, unfocused, and unconstructive, it can lose its utility and become irrelevant (my opinion).

Overall, I think Rob has done a great job at providing a virtual venue for this community to grow, learn, and improve. Importantly, I appreciate all of you for sharing.

It's really important not to take or give offense to the greatest extent possible. The people I admire most are those that reflect loving kindness in their lives and who never take more than they give. It's really wonderful to have so many different voices on the forum. At some point I began to understand that the people on this forum are not a perfect representation of Puna. As some have pointed out, I don't even live here (there!) --at least not physically.

But this is a big world and when we wink out either virtually or in reality, the world just goes on without us ---but it's a different world. If you have a voice, and you are here now, and there is something to say (or if you have something to ask), and if you can say or ask it without intentionally causing damage to someone else, may also well stick around.

We are building a community here and we need all voices....

It's a shame that so many people feel so intensely about this but miss the point that mei was leaving punaweb because of the way you all attacked pohaku and all the accusations, yet you don't allow him/her to defend themselves?

Goody, Mei gave the reason on the first post on this thread... Your post is not the reason given on the first post of the thread. I can respect that forums do take up time, and I use this forum as a way to relax, recharge, and re-direct myself.
I signed up for this forum knowing there were rules. Punafish has framed the rules analogy very well. I have noticed that membership on most forums ebbs & flows with time. It is not a statement of anything but the priorities of the members &/or the forum change...

I joined Punaweb maybe three years ago with what I thought was a clever little blurb about Marj and me, subtly emphasizing how great we were and how you all would be smart to make our acquaintance. I think that was read by maybe two people, one of them , John Dirgo, who wrote back to me. Okay, Punaweb did NOT bow down at my feet, acknowledge my wisdom, and, I got over it. Since then I have on occasion posted a comment, some which I regretted. But most of the time I just read and listen. And, you know what, it works better that way for me. I check in every morning with my morning coffee. I don't read all posts but I do read many. I thank you all for what I have learned. On occasion there have been shrill nonsensical or racist rants. There have been nasty people. I ignore em. Works for me.

So I hereby announce that I am NOT leaving Punaweb. And apologies to all for hijacking this thread.

Well, you have hijacked my blog, sent me a personal email indicating you personal feelings about an individual I'll bet you barely know and then this blog has been turned into something also. My point has been lost, but you haveinspired me to cpntinue sharing at this forum.
