100% Kalianna.
The best time to lock up a national politics thread is right when it starts.
The second best time to lock up a national politics thread is now.

Perhaps the posts that highjack a Hawaii thread into national politics could be deleted so those who stay on track can update when:
“Certain things have come to light. And, you know, has it ever occurred to you, that, instead of, uh, you know, running around, uh, uh, blaming me, you know, given the nature of all this new sh*t, you know, I-I-I-I... this could be a-a-a-a lot more, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, complex…”

Or a simple litmus test:
If the poster is referring to a national politician and the poster didn't give a rat's patootie (or were oblivious) about the alleged behaviors they are now citing when politicians of their preferred flavor were perpetrating them, then we know these posters are insincere and are merely trying to drag local chat room Punaweb into their national propaganda cult nonsense. In this case aren't deletion and perhaps a Punaweb vacation in order?

Edge - Perhaps the posts that highjack a Hawaii thread into national politics could be deleted so those who stay on track can update
This would make sense from a moderation standpoint so the single posts that run astray can be removed and the overall thread of conversation about Puna and Hawaii related topics remains for everyone else. Why punish everyone for the bad actions of an individual?
When we were discussing the Lahaina fire, or the various local lava flows, or Iselle, we also often discussed the Federal Emergency Management Agency - its budget, policies, limitations, etc. Does a federal agency's involvement make all those events in Hawaii now a national politics issue off-limits for Punaweb discussion? Federal government has an impact on local issues and events - there is no way around that (until Hawaii goes all sovereign I guess). Rob has recognized this previously and allowed such topics, and apparently still does as he's been on several times since this thread started and has not taken any moderation steps.
Punatang - If the poster is referring to a national politician...
Like your recent post about Biden? Or the links in your past signature to that Debunking Lies About Trump site? Or how the BLS numbers are "pure propaganda" to benefit Bidenomics? And on and on and on... In my many years here, I've seen few posters granted as many passes and second chances for posting national politics as you have been given. Seems strange to complain about specks in others with the plank in your own eye - maybe you can surf on that to the vacation you're recommending? ;)
By your arbitrary suggested rules, if there hasn't been a Punaweb discussion before about Customs policies and practices at HNL, then one is never allowed now? Or only allowed for those who haven't been around here very long and therefore aren't "insincere"? What a convenient way try to redefine the policies so as to stifle speech about topics you don't like. Maybe instead you just scroll on by - there's lots of stuff on the internet (some of it even passes fact checks) and this discussion about CBP's actions in Hawaii isn't required reading for you, Donny, or anyone else who is not interested.

Maybe it's time we all respect Rob's wishes and keep National out of Punaweb - before we lose Punaweb for good. Enough with the games. It's not burying your head in the sand. It's about addressing those issues in the appropriate forum - not here. Have some respect.

The Bicker Board is that way. There you can make your argument Punatang for how in your short time here respectfully posting conspiracy theories about the last administration and comparing your neighbors to Nazis (all still there if you want to edit those posts like you just did with your 2024 BLS post), you've come to know better than everyone, even Rob, what Hawaii-related topics are and aren't worthy of being on PunaWeb. He already said he doesn't want you "blocking for the team" so maybe stop trying to act out to get threads you don't like shut down?

There's a lot of Federal hereabout.. lotta local stuff.. geez, even the tilt meter is federal! And what our federal representatives do or don't do (often far away in DC) is local. Still, I'm pretty sure everyone would agree dragging admins into the fray isn't the best way to go. And besides, they seem to be pretty attentive to those kine concerns without being prompted. Maybe there's a better, more creative, kinder, way to say.. hey, keep it local..

Such as? And what to do when it's not listened to (again)? I know you've been in the moderation hot seat for discussion boards as well so always interested in lessons learned from those that have also done their time.
