A brilliant pioneer in animal rights is Temple Grandin, there's a great documentary out about her. An autistic woman who has a gift of seeing patterns of herding animals who managed to apply her knowledge to slaughterhouses to minimize trauma to the animals which of course also saves the industry tons of money or they would never have listened to her. Regardless, why not choose to be humane and minimize the cruelty?

In support, I might compare it to a cultural resource which could be loosely categorized along with public libraries, public parks, community auditoriums.

I don't need to. I worked for a humane society for many years and volunteered at the one in Keaau. I'm not the one throwing the first stone.

Criminalizing zoos: Maybe you can share your feelings on this? Does it involve a police state marching into the zoos and arresting all the volunteers and employees? And euthanizing the animals like PETA recommends? I can't agree with that.

I'm not getting into it further with you terracore, either folks objectify animals or they don't. You do and I don't. A good analogy is a breeder and a rescuer, two who rarely can have a rational discussion about the ethics of zoos, the schism runs too deep.
Edit to add...
I draw this conclusion from your remark about breeding and warehousing animals until their habitats come back. When has there been a reversal of global warming, overpopulation, global pollution or deforestation to give you this idea that it's ok to breed and warehouse animals in cages to the point of catatonic existence not just severe depression and the assumption the land would support them or they could reintroduce? Who it that for? Humans or the animals?
