Lanikai Tap In Volcano Open, Ohelo Restaurant Closed

Down the road from Volcano Village, in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is Volcano House.  Uncle George’s serves a pretty good pizza, and if you arrive at the right time ask for a window seat overlooking the crater.  They have a decent selection of beers, the Pilsner is excellent.
Tip: if the window seats are taken, and it’s lunch time, check the main restaurant.  You can often get a window seat in there, order from Uncle George’s lunch menu - - same price.

Indeed.  Thanks to MyManao for offering up plausible speculation.  Covid restrictions?  Ridiculous!

And thanks to you for the tip.  Smile

only 1 maga kine reetard would try 4 connect old covid chit with a closed restaurant in Volcano Village today...

FACT IS:. zero restaurants do good up there, low local $$ = not much interest locally. .
...every single eating place down the hwy to Hilo suffers...
even in Keaau.
and tourists often eat inside the park via tour vans/buses bring catered food in w/them made especially for them at Hilo Coffee, etc.

stand in mid Volcano Village and count the cars too.... not many at all on the side road, not many on the hwy fronting village too..
IMO Kona side tourist kooks eating in Punaluu or Kona before or after...

commonsense101:
the HVNP entrance is on the Kona side of Volcano Village =
Kona side = high % of tourists on island
you have to drive rental car past the park to see any Volcano Village signage =
out of the way for anyone coming from Kona side
and they may not even know it exists...

Lanikai Taproom opening Friday in Ohelo’s location, Volcano Village. Beer, pizza, more.

“The community loved ʻŌhelo Cafe and it left a void up here when they closed. When it was announced that we would be here in this spot, people were really excited about it and very supportive.”

Yes, imagine that folks.

Imagine being (a woman along with a group of 12 other women) woken up at the crack of dawn, by a dozen plus masked and heavily armed men, screaming orders at the top of their lungs, their guns pointed at your head, being yanked out of your bed in your underwear or pulled from a shower and only allowed a towel before being marched out on the front lawn, arms in the air and then being forced to show “papers please.”

Your crime: Being a Filipino teacher here in (Maui) Hawaii on a J-1 Visa.

Just imagine that folks.

The crime is actually "being brown". Not that this has anything to do with the original topic.

Some people with access to a time machine might visit a past long gone and kill hitler or buy stock on the cheap. Others just grumble about a one star grievance they had during a worldwide health crisis.

I look forward in time (in the near future!) with a local Pilsner served in Volcano:
“Party Wave” — Pilsner ABV 5% IBU 30, Local ingredient: Māmaki

Lanikai's Pillbox Porter is a lovely rich brew. Hard to find, as are any good stouts and porters here that aren't over-hopped and under-alcohol'ed. Hopefully they will serve it and maybe even do take-out from the taproom.
