The good news? new friends, the bad news? got a LOT of return on my opinions, I guess I'm no longer Treasurer for HPPNW, which actually should be under the good thing because they have no money and we are doin ourselves anyway.
The ugly? maybe the few who didn't like my words who went behind my back and have they're secret meeting to oust me! lol
But you see, to me
it's all good.
You can can offer a hand if, it's rejected?

Since I'm not there, all I've got to share are memories of the past and dreams for the future. They're all good.
In my mind's eye right now I can see the following: It's either Pohoiki Road or Opihikau Drive, can't remember which. Both of 'em are about the prettiest leisure drive I can imagine. I'm cruising with my new wife and our 19 year old daughter. All of a sudden, there's a sharp bend in the road, with a house on the outside of the bend. The homeowner, surely from more than one bad experience, posted a sign, "SLO DOWN FAKA".
My wife and I still giggle and call each other "faka" when we're play mad at each other.
I can speak fair pidgin, but that one cracked me up.
How do I know?

Could'a found somewhere else to put this, but this is the "aloha" thread, to me. Aloha and Happy Thanksgiving to all my newfound Punatic friends, if I actually have any.
Mahalo for letting me see how Puna really is.
How do I know?

You can realy see the glaring difference between those who want, want, want and those that are happy JUST because they are fortunate to live Hawaii.
I was here before Home Depot, (Kona). I spent plenty and still do at HaloePayMore. Home Depot doesn't have everything, espically enough people working in there.
One good aspect of living in Hawaii even someone who couldn't grow a raddish on the mainland can grow anything here, just have to try.
It is a bad thing to want to have all the ammenities that were available where ever ,everyone came from. Want ammenities? go to Kona, Mauna Kea.
We need to have Puna declared an Historical District.. before it gets ugly.

Take a breath, we are of the same decent, (including NA, different tribe), so I understand your frustration.
and YES, I WAS a haole/mainlander once upon a time. When do you "change", 'become hawaiian?"
I guess when you feel it in your heart, when you see the aina raped, and it causes you to do something about it, even if it ain't yours.
Maybe when you see people acting more and more like "mainlaners" and less and less aloha.
I suppose if you haven't been here long enough to notice a change you haven't been here long.
I came here many, many times before I chose to embrace this culture over my "mainland" culture. I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings. I read someone's post about working and paying dues to get here like this is a prize.
I came over here and paid my dues here. Worked here. Built here. Volunteer here. Go WAY the Hell out of my way to try to effect GOOD change, to the point it causes me physical exaserbation to one of my cronic physical contitions.
That's my cross to bear. I have been more fortunate than 97% of the planet because my parents were living in SF when they made me.
And I've made many mistakes throughout my life. But as long as I can breath I can warn one other, hey! there's a brick wall stright ahead, slow down!
I may have been born there but I spent most of my life here. I assimilated. didn't try to bring all my bad habits, customs, beliefs and wants with me. yes I hate the fact that there is a Wally world in Hilo all together. I remember when there wasn't one. I prefered it without..
answer your question? if not email me i'll give you my number and we can talk story.

After some contentious exchanges on other threads, Punapetah started this thread with: quote:
Aloha...............
I am new to your guys forum, not new to Puna or Hawaii. I've lived in the state longer than any ther place I've lived, so it's my home.
"We", complain, I maybe da loudest I'm sorry, about many things in Puna. The lava, the frogs, the choppers, the burglars, the lack of compitent systems or infastructure. But for all these "cons" the "pro" list is so much longer.
The Good of Hawaii still out weighs the bad and the ugly, here on the BI. But we can't be complacent. The Big Island, Puna espically is one of the last laid back places in these islands. Super anything? is gonna change it all much faster.
This thread is for only good posts like I've been watching these two torch ginger blooms going off. And it's so amazing.
My new little uni-horn goat thinks she's a sheep and follows the others, anyone need fertalizer? Starfruit tree is choke full. Avos all over. Lucky you live Hawaii.
Make a list, your positive aspects in living here are 2-3 to 1 over the negative.
I took this thread to be the refuge from the controversy that was taking place elsewhere on the PW forum. I posted some childhood memories, some recent adult memories, and looked forward to posting more nice things here, including my hopes and dreams for the future.
Alas, this thread has degenerated into the muck, too. I think I'm going to confine myself into the "Buildning in Puna" area of this forum for awhile. I came onto this site to prepare my transition to the BI in about two years. I don't want to participate in a two year, on-going argument. That's not my style, and, I gather, not the style of many of the other participants on this forum.
Aloha.
