The workers are on their feet for 11 hours a day, said Mr. Davis, who pays them $30 an hour.

But..but...but... How can this be? The narrative is that illegals work for very low wages?

"Federal agents arrested 50 people this week on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii island for violating immigration laws due to convictions for crimes including murder, domestic violence and drug possession..."
"...Officials said that among those arrested was a Vietnamese national convicted of second-degree murder and a Mexican national convicted of drunken driving in 2020 and 2015 and driving without a license in 2011 and 2020. Information on where their crimes occurred was not immediately released Thursday.
Additional criminal convictions of those “arrested or targeted” include domestic violence, car theft, murder, theft, probation violations, drug possession and gun crimes, according to ICE officials. The states where the criminal convictions occurred and details of the crimes were not released Thursday..."

I keep hearing those that love to fondle guns go on about their sacred rights..
Edited.
If the subject of second amendment rights relates to something that occurred in Puna or Hawaii, yes.
Otherwise, no.

Archive link for that NY Times article - full story and pictures. This paragraph also stood out to me.
There are no immigration lawyers practicing on the island, and immigrants who have court hearings must fly to Honolulu, where immigration proceedings are held. Missing a hearing can result in a deportation order from a judge, making the immigrants targets for enforcement.
leilanidude - Is it not more cruel to have sent your child alone, across the border to begin with?
Such a strange assumption and equivocation... Obviously, there are many reasons children could end up in the immigration system alone - including separation, being orphaned, trafficking, etc... Regardless of the cause, we hopefully have higher standards of treatment and that always-demanding U.S. Constitution says no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law. Legal rights - they're not just for you, but for everyone.
MM - how it is critical for them to own guns so as to protect us from a tyrannical government..
But is the government tyrannical really if it's hurting the people they
want it to? And the government ops look so tacticool when they storm the lanais in Kona with the belts, and the vests, and the boots... OMG the boots! So shiny and lickable...

From leilanidude’s link above, HTH noted one person was arrested for second degree murder, then the story later stated other additional accusations included murder…
Was there more than one charged with murder? One might also wonder why someone with a questionable immigration status and a murder arrest was walking free? Is there more to the story?
Another was accused of drunken driving. That’s two out of 50 listed with specific crimes. Then there’s some semi generic crimes noted, less frightening than MURDER (mentioned twice), but I’d be curious what the other 48 were charged with. Perhaps, some weren’t charged with anything (yet) but unlike the Maui teachers (the other half of the article) they haven’t been released to tell their side of the story?
immigrants who have court hearings must fly to Honolulu
…
How do they do this without REAL ID?
It’s almost as if law enforcement and the justice system function without the left hand knowing what the right hand is doing? And in a way that charges, real or not, can morph into an actual crime?
