Starlink Internet

I opted for the rental mini.
Nothing to lose. I just have to save the box to send it back. I'm waiting to see if they actually ship it to Hawaii.
My dish is in Ohia so we'll see .
I wish I still camped or boat camped.

If nothing else I can use it as backup because without WiFi calling, my cellphone doesn't work at my house.
Spectrum goes out as soon as there's a power outage.
I can power the mini with 2 12 volt batteries. (It requires 24 volts)
There is an adapter you can buy that plugs into the 12 volts on a vehicle and outputs 24.

One of the reasons why I went with Hawaiian Telcom fiber.

I have an APC 600 battery backup UPS for my router, fiber converter box thingy and a camera that uses 3 watts. The other day when there was a large power outage in Leilani, it lasted just over 3 hours. I might swap it out for a 1000 and see if I get 7+ hours out of it.

APC 600 and smaller use a single 12V gel cell. Wheelchair batteries are compatible.

Yeah, I did too. Why not? $5/month for a backup and for any travel, and/or emergency outages at our family/friends place. Would be $25/month for 50tb, or $83/month for unlimited at the promised half price.

Of course if starlink went down at the homestead is when we would need backup and the backup would also be starlink, so…silly probably for that scenario.

I wonder if there would be some way to “rent” to tourists.

Their new pricing plans are based on how many users are in the area.

In my part of the mainland they are filled out so the only plan is the $120.00.

After re- checking I found out they now offer the $80.00 plan and I was able to switch.
When I checked in October that plan was not available in my area.

Thanks Kirt !!

Finally hooked up my mini and got it updated.
Took longer to find an extension cord and plug it in.

I get 28 mps down which is faster than the Hawaiiantel DSL that I used to have.
It will be a good backup system in case of a disaster and only costs $5.00/month.

I haven’t upped the plan to see how fast it is. But the “dial-up” speed standby is good enough for texts and email…FWIW.

Also noticed the DJI 1000 power supply is on sale for $399 from Dji website including free shipping…
