Glen, if you'll take a little time to learn who it was that set up a system that would give high credit risk people loans and refused to allow regulations every time it was brought up, you'll see that it was the opposite of free market business.
Banks used to require people to have down payments, stable jobs and high credit scores to qualify for a mortgage loan.
There were some in congress that thought this was unfair, so they came up with legislation that would give loans to people without the ability to pay it back it was called the Community Reinvestment Act.
read about that here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_Reinvestment_Act
But in 1995 under Clinton it authorized sub-prime loans "sub prime" is a nice way of saying "BAD LOAN" example if your car is broke and doesn't run, your car is "SUB PRIME" Fannie Mae said to the banks make the loan will guarantee it.
Before you start blaming BOOOsh and republicans you may want to look a little closer to home
In 2003 Bush tried to get congress to overhaul it and start a new agency that would regulate Fannie and Freddie but was blocked by the Democrats.
In 2005 McCain warned that the Mortgage industry was in trouble so he cosponsored a bill called “The Housing Enterprise Act of 2005” you can google it it is at www.govtrack.us it’s bill S-190. But it was blocked by democrats.
Why was it blocked? Because Fannie Mae had some friends in the Senate:
Chris Dodd , Barack Hussain Obama and Chuck Shummer, Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry and some dirty republicans.
You need to watch this video:

you’ll have to pause it to read some of it.

Anyone who holds up Cuba as a shining example can't have been to Cuba.

Cuba is not a shining example. But some things are better in Cuba than in the United States: 1) Cigars, and 2) Access to Quality Healthcare.

Snap, baby -- gonna try and blame the destruction of our economy on Clinton? The worst attack since Pearl Harbor and this crash occured on Bush's watch. He sat by and did nothing. He is a figurehead, and the people responsible for this are looking for a new one.

Right on Glen.

Cuba. Nowadays, they're also internationally recognized leaders in medical research.

Unregulated capitalism. The richest and most powerful people and entities in a country will always use their power and extreme wealth to accumulate more power and wealth. Give a monkey a brain and he'll swear he's the center of the universe. Give him the wealth of kings (or a steady paycheck for that matter) and he'll believe anything that he thinks is in his own best financial interest.

Fascism, (Corporatism), will always work to subvert and replace Democracy.

Local or national, same same.

Yowzah!

That's why you see 1000s of Americans get in rafts and risk their lives trying to get to Cuba.

That is why North Korea has mine feilds and electric fences, you know to keep all the American defectors out and from eating all of their abundant food.

That is why American die from heat stroke in shipping containers on ships headed for China.

That is why Americans are dieing in the deserts of chihauha and nuevo Leon desparte to get down to Mexico.

Oh wait a tick, do I have that backwards?

Keep it Hawaii boys and girls or watch it disappear.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand the value of this rule.

Darn, just when I had come to the conclusion that the rule had become defunct and was about to join the fray!

Meanwhile, in Hawaii, we had the worst turnout in electoral history! Shameful. The healthcare system can be improved in Hawaii and can even become a model for other places if we really try.

Sorry Rob, but the topic isn't one that is localized to Hawaii.

Then please take the topic to another forum or figure out how to keep the context local.
