MailBox Break-ins HPP
#1
The cluster boxes on Paradise and 1st were broken into
last night. Over a dozen were forced open with what looks
like a screwdriver. The mail person left those boxes open
with a note inside that said "L/B". After talking to the
post office, I found out that means "LOCK BROKEN"
I would advise all HPP residents do not leave any mail
in the boxes overnight. Call the police and report it if
you see anyone hanging around the boxes. I understand that
this is happening all over HPP. I guess it is a good argument for
going paperless and doing all business on-line.

I walked down Maku'u today and noticed several of the boxes by the Hui were broken into also.... It is an inconvenience to go to the post office but I don't think they been broken into lately.

If anyone sees any suspicious behavior at the HPP boxes take the license plate number and report it. Be sure to make a police report.
The great news is the criminals will get FEDERAL prosecution. It is a federal law they are breaking which gets them in big trouble.
Hope they get caught soon.

What's the incentive for stealing other people's mail? No checks anymore, just bills. Smile

Netflix DVDs, preapproved credit card applications or new credit cards, medications, package delivery notices, rebate checks, and lots of potential bits of info that can be used for identity theft. There's lots of potentially valuable stuff hanging out in mailboxes...

An activist HPP Neighborhood Watch member has contacted the Postmaster, and he has given us permission to post NW warning signs at the box clusters. Unfortunately, almost all the box locations are outside our establised Block Watch boundaries, but we have some members who are making a special effort to look out for trouble.

Does the Postmaster in Keaau still manage your mailboxes ?

The Postmaster in Pahoa Has told everyone in the Kapoho area that we are on our own.

Not really.

I was wondering if the people who get their mail at those boxes are going to have to pay for replacements.

We are responsible for maintenance and repair of our boxes. The Post Office originally provided them, but now they are ours.

RX pain meds is likely the driving force. HPP was hit again today (3/3) in broad day light.
These people are desperate. Hope they make a mistake and get caught. All these people now
have to go to Keaau post office to get their mail. Bet it will be months before these gets fixed.
