Insurance on shipping container
#1
Our first container was picked up today for shipment to Hilo to HPP! Has anyone purchased marine insurance on their household goods shipment?
Has anyone heard of the contents of a container being damaged so that insurance was worthwhile?

Most important thing about shipping Allen is how tight the contain is packed. That you control. The other think is where on the ship the container is when in transit. dead center in the ship it the most optimum place but you'll never know where it ends up. Up high and out on the ends of the ship, the container will take a beating. I personally haven't heard of anyone taking out insurance on one. Not that it isn't done. Hope all goes well for your move and BTW... TV is still waiting for you!

Thanks Royall.
I guess I will do like Joey and 'Go Commando' on the insurance. Sorting and packing sucks! I tried to pack things tightly and criss-crossed ratcheting straps from the tiedowns each 1/4 of the way in the container. Now we will see how it goes.
In 3 1/2 weeks it's 'Laissez les bon temps roulez'. Monday Oct. 3 I should have Oceanic hook up cable so I can try out your TV.

but when you figure how many million contain moves a year there are the chances of them droping one are very low

We were surprised that we'd have to specify which pieces in the shipment we wanted insured. That actually made the decision easier and kept the price down bc we chose a handful of choice items and took a chance with the rest. Only a couple of things arrived broken, but that was our packing. The stuff we insured was fine.

Is the container yours? Do you want to sell it?

Sorry, the container belongs to Horizon.

I might be wrong but I believe that the commodity based Matson rates include insurance. Check with Matson.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Matson does provide insurance up to $10,000. If you declare more value, then you have to pay % price to get additional coverage. Our container arrives on Friday the 15th. Can't wait!
