the "ethics" "investigation"

Interesting contrast in today's paper:

http://hawaiitribune-herald.com/sections...aints.html

Mr. Kern is accused of "conflict of interest" despite seeking counsel *and* publically disclosing his acquaintance with Mr. Ellis.

Meanwhile, Mr. Yagong is accused of a "conflict of interest" for serving on the County Elections Division while his daughter runs for County Council.

I freely admit that I'm no expert in these matters, but somehow the disparity just doesn't sit right; at the very least, it seems that Mr. Kern went out of his way to disclose any possible conflict of interest, while Mr. Yagong is quoted as saying "this silly distraction is without merit".

If my tinfoil hat were a little tighter, I'd go so far as to suggest that Mr. Kern's landslide victory is a rebuke of the "development politics" in Puna -- and as such, he will never be allowed to actually serve his term.

He could be effective.

If the voters of this island wake up and send Ford and Blas to the unemployed tax paid people they deserve to be.

There may be enough new blood and more importantly competence instead of the usual head up your ass incompetence we are accustomed to!

Brenda Ford is one of the best council members the County has ever had. She does her homework, is always prepared and rarely if ever misses a meeting. She listens intently and on several levels out performs the troika in Hilo.

I can't imagine what your complaint with Brenda might be. Care to elaborate?

She was – and no doubt in there being so.

But now, I have two reasons -

1. She now would represent MY district if reelected.

2. She has sat back, and of the four votes with respect to the initial claim filed on the four election workers, became at that point the most important senior member of this Council - other than Yagong, who could have stepped in and done the correct and right thing.

Instead, she sat back then and since then, has done nothing. Except add to and agree with the obfuscation and lies.

You had better get it thru your head - the stink from this election debacle will be around for a long long time. And will cost US tax payers millions.

Three of the four have already been reinstated. One of the four workers has already died, the other moved off this island. I can honestly say, I would not expect to get the remaining two to ever come back - even though it’s clear the Clerk and Yagong will be, thank goodness, gone in a few months.

So what have we gained? And at what cost? And why?

I may change my mind if Ford would ever stand up and say – ENOUGH – (as she gives a well deserved stink eye to the idiot who created this mess in the first place.) Then as a political body, with 8 affirmative votes – turn around and fire the Clerk and begin immediate negotiations with Hong on settlement as well as reinstatement.

That could also serve as any settlements requirement of a public apology.

You may vote for whomever you wish but I am going to assume that Brenda Ford is paying close attention to the election mess and will know just what to do about it and when.

And you too may vote for whom you wish, but the time for Ford to have done something came and went a long long time ago.

I never assume anything with this proven pack of 9 idiots.

As you wish but you won't find a more skilled, devoted or capable council rep than Brenda Ford.

Has it occurred to you yet that there might be a logical reason they have made no statements? And you just can't figure it out?

Why should the county pay any money and offer an apology to people who were fired for cause ?

Ken,I thought you ran a huge company ???

If you allow beer on the property and I can run a side business, then I want a job at your company !!

If they deserved termination, why have three of the four terminations been overturned and ordered reinstated?

I do run a very large Company. And I know when to fire a person and when not too. As well as how to follow a union contract. And when to hire the proper type of Investigation Company if needed and not some schmuck buddy who apparently has leaked quite a bit of confidential information to various loud mouth bloggers.

I wonder what the outcome of a referendum vote would be that would ask the population that if they support the termination of the four election workers, their taxes alone will pay the settlement, whereas those taxpayers who do not support the termination of the four election works would get a tax reduction.

Dom and the Clerk should check to see if any of their insurance policies cover punitive damage judgments.

Now, who really deserves to be fired?

What the logical reason could be that this debacle has been allowed to continue one day past the election is beyond comprehension.

Now, there weren’t four more skilled, devoted or capable election workers.
