We are a family of 3 and we are in desperate need of United Airlines tickets to get to safety. My husband has severe asthma and has already had 2 hip replacements from an injection of prednisone during a previous asthma attack. He is already feeling the effects of the smoke, we live in Nanawale. We need airline tickets, miles, or donations towards 3 tickets. I know everyone is in need at this time and we pray for you all. I'm truly sorry for any misfortune your are facing. I suffer with asthma as well so I can identify.
That said though You have zero credibility coming on a public Internet forum and anonymously asking for money in your first ever post. As the forum moderator often says "Assume the best and ask questions". I for one have to ask who you might be.
If you need to bail what about a trip to the Kona side and camping for a while? Or at least the bare minimum would be to try and establish some sort of credibility with long term members on the forum. Do you know anyone here personally?

Sorry to hear about the asthma.
My question is why tickets from United Airlines? Why to the Mainland?
I am assuming you are renting, since a property owner would not just abandon ship at this time.
I would suggest that if you are in need to move, just pack your car and move to Hilo, or away from the lava flow.
To me this sounds like an opportunistic person trying to take advantage of the situation,

PS: If anyone wants to buy me tickets to Florence, thru Alitalia, I would appreciate it very much. Just one ticket. This burning smell is driving me insane, not to mention the heat!!

As a nurse I find it very hard to believe the need to get even one hip replacement from an injection of prednisone. Hip replacements are given when one falls and breaks their hip. Please connect the dots?????
And , yes , why United and why the mainland and not just go to Kona?

I am sorry to hear of your predicament, and that I have nothing personally to offer you in the way of help. I am also sorry for those that have posted replies that have been less than sympathetic to your needs. Please do not loose heart, there are some in the community that might be able to steer you towards help with your situation though even they are just now figuring out how to wrap their minds around this situation in order to be able to do so. In other words a little patience, even if it is difficult, is needed now.
Again.. don't be discouraged and keep asking for help if you feel you need it. Good luck to you and your family!

Severe asthmatics are often on long term steroids and this can cause osteoporosis. Not just the one injection, but she may not totally understand and just knows it's related. Have a heart.

United way (not Airlines), Red Cross, The Human Services Dept in Hilo, and many other out of my head services, are available to you. That is where you should be knocking. I have no idea if they will give you tickets to "anywhere" on the mainland, but they will help you with your situation, even if it means having to relocate, probably somewhere within the island.
