Fuel Tax revenue for private roads
#21
A lot of the fuel tax money winds NOT getting used for public roads, and gets sent off to the state or feds or whatever.
THAT's the money we're trying get released for the subdivision roads--keeping our tax money on island.

PICK. ONE.

You're assuming the "private road drivers" are not going to drive on public(county) roads?

You mean, like assuming that the fuel tax "for roads" will be spent on roads at all?

It is required by law to be used for roads.
Assume the best and ask questions.

The roads in the substandard subdivisions are, as the Kauai County Charter calls them, “privately owned” roads. They are called public roads because they are open to the public.
State law (HRS 265 A-1) gives the Counties the authority to amend their County Charter to allow them to work on “privately owned” roads.
Kauai and Maui work on “privately owned” roads because they have amended their Charters stating under what conditions they can do it. Kauai, for instance, states that there has to be more that 6 houses on the road and not all owned by the same owner.
