Introduce yourself
Hi all! Although a I am a punatic, i am a newbie on punaweb. I am so grateful for this site. It really brings the community together! Thought I would bring this topic back up to the top for all the newcomers.

My name is sara. I was born and raised in the kalapana area, went to Pahoa elementary and HAAS. My parent's eloped and moved to Maui about 30 years ago, before settling in kalapana on the big island. I am a full time student at HCC studying graphic design.

My name is not important.
I am a lifelong resident of this island.
Waimea Elementary & Intermediate School.
Honoka'a High School.
US Army.
Kapi'olani Community College.

I moved to Puna (Hawaiian Acres) in the late 1980's because I liked the area and could afford living here, plus it's not too far from Hilo, so here I am all these years later.

I thought it was Sam and Lee's that burnt down...but was rebuilt. Did Pepe's just close down or what? (sorry to hijack the thread...It's funny there are Adak people here on Punaweb too!) Arctic Pizza was good too.

PEPE's burned to the ground this last fall and was a total loss.
The Top of The World was damaged and remains closed and the Wells Fargo building was scorched.
Barrow is a balmy 10 above zero today.

Aloha to all here on punaweb especially rob tucker for creating this brain child.

My family first moved to mt view in Eden rock back in 1983 & have considered Puna our home ever since. Back then it was a 20 minute drive fom the front road to hwy 11. Until my early 20's I bounced between the NW US & the islands until settling down in lower puna where I now reside. In 2006 a life passion that began as family recreation became my job/career. The flowing lava has captivated my family & i since we first moved here & sill today is by far one of the most exciting phenomenas on mother earth. Most people on punaweb know me as the captain of the Lavakai which is the cram colored catamaran that depart Pohoiki. This forum has the potential to be a solid resource for community members to share information & experiences with one another.

Greetings from Pittsburgh, PA Jim!

A typical Pgh question - What area around Pgh do you call home at this time?

Best of luck with your move to Puna. I have one request - with your history of bringing natural disasters upon yourself, would you mind choosing your next residence in an area really, really far away from Hawaiian Acres? Wink

ALOHA Wegian I'm about 60 miles east of pit out in the sticks.I seem to be on the outskirts of the disaster,21 miles from Northridge quake.maybe it would be best if I'm close by.I think maybe I show up to be helpful to the more affected folks.I did a lot of patch and paint around the epicenter.Did I mention I was in the Johnstown flood.Lucky me~up on a hill.I seem to to be blessed that way but I don't want to press my luck.I wish I could send you some of this snow and ice, more headed our way now.Enough already...put the cherry juice in the 7up and toast to Shirley Temple God speed to the good ship Lilly pop in the sky

Hello everyone! My name is Mike and my partner Paul and I have been visiting Hawaii for about 10 years now. We have been to all of the Islands, (including Molokai) and I spend way too much time dreaming of moving to Hawaii for good. We both own small businesses in Dallas. I own a gift and home accessories store, and Paul sells real estate. We would both hope to sell real estate at least part time if we move to either Maui or the Big Island. I am in my fifties and have some health challenges that will make it difficult to continue my business much longer. Specifically, I have a degenerating spine that has caused me to have several major surgeries and my latest MRI shows six very bad discs. They say pain management for me from now on because of so much damage. Anyway, Puna is a great option for us as far as price and the life we like to live. I still enjoy hiking and getting as much activity as possible. Am on this site to learn all I can and also get advice. Trying to figure out the best area to live in with our modest budget around the $250,000 range. Also whether the Hilo area has enough good pain doctors to keep me upright. We had dreamed of Maui, but the prices and traffic are getting out of hand. When I am feeling well, I love to swim and body surf. I know Puna does not have areas for that, but we all have to make sacrifices. What I do know is that each time I am in Hawaii I am a more relaxed, better human being and it is hard to put a price on that. We are both anxious to live in a more open-minded area after all our lives in Texas. Any advice is appreciated. Aloha
