Eh brah, smoke meat all day long

UH-Hilo lecturer wants east side folks to smoke meat and ahi, properly seasoned with “shoyu, sugar, ginger, garlic, chili pepper water,” and not the reefer. He wrote a reggae tune about it. Music video at link.

“It’s a traditional delicacy that might not be a Hawaiian cultural, traditional kind of thing, ... “It speaks to the lifestyle but also at the end it wraps up and says smoke meat, not batu, meaning smoke meat, not drugs.”

"Batu" refers to crystal meth and "reefer" refers to pot. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the song is not saying to stay away from pot because to do so in a reggae song would be blasphemous, would it not?

An excellent point, mon.
I find it difficult to keep up with the kid’s slang these days.
Can you dig it?
I know it’s not local, but I’ll stick with the smoked salmon when it’s on sale.
