Punaweb Dysfunctional

Kathy -
Thanks for your recent posts.
A balanced approach is helpful all around.

Before the internet, before Tripadvisor, when I first moved to Maui I disembarked from the plane, picked up a rental car, and hit the road. First stop, groceries. I saw a couple of local guys standing around and asked them if they knew of a grocery store that also sold beer (some states don't allow sales of both). They said, "yeah brah, Food Lawn!" I said "Food Lawn?" "Yeah, they got everything."

I wrote down the directions, and was excited that I was REALLY in the tropics now, a place with a climate so perfect groceries and beer could be sold outside in a park like setting, maybe even with hula girls for checkout clerks. No more snow and ice, or thunderstorms with tornadoes for this dude.

When I arrived, needless to say I was sorely disappointed. There was no Food Lawn, just a Foodland in a pole building with a big parking lot like anywhere else in America. Had Tripadvisor existed in those days, it would have saved me my first shattered dream, only an hour after landing in beautiful Hawaii. But the beer was good and frosty, and that was the one last place where I could do with some ice cold conditions. So I got over my disappointment, and not too much later shared dinner and those chilled beers with a friend, where we talked late into the night about old times and new adventures to come.

On October 8th you said that "Puna won't be open" by Christmas. That was never the official view.
There were always plans to have other roads opened if the highway got cut.

You can't just post whatever you want and then later say: well, that was then. Smiley face.

What about your statement that it's 3 hours drive from Puna to get to water access? Was that true at the time?
"Most of all, there is no truly clean and safe place to get in the water that isn't three hours drive from there!"

How about the "human trafficking" at Uncle Roberts? Still standing by that one?

As for MK, I don't really care if anyone drives up there at night, it's just an example of the "Destination Experts" being wrong and refusing to admit it - because they can't be wrong. I'm glad you're coming around on that one at least, thank you.

I have never seen anyone who can use so many words and say nothing of consequence Smile Seriously you should have been a lawyer Smile You have the ability to take anything and make yourself look awesome Smile Kind of passive aggressive Smile If you really want to have a constructive conversation about your comments on TA, than you need to be a tad more truthful and honest Smile.

Wow! That's some post,. Unfortunately I watched e mail by e mail as you betrayed someone who went way out of her way to help you. I finally had to ask you to please stop sending me your novellas.
You know, a proper response to this who thing might have been:
I'm sorry if I caused anyone concern. That was not my intent. I understand how you largely love where you live an I will try to be more gentle with Puna. If I am wrong in the future, please let me know and I will do all I can to give the correct information if mine is indeed wrong.
No need to go point-by-point until people are cross eyed. People only want their wishes acknowledged. Many here are going out of their way to give you the benefit of the doubt. Make friends.

Kathy, Are you really blaming me for your complications with Tom L. Your karma is your own. Don't you have responsibility for anything that happens in your life?
Seriously, you're blaming me?????

Jackson- if you look at both Kathy's & Shea's posts on Tripadvisor since this situation began, you can see they have both taken a more moderate approach in their comments toward Puna. As you suggested she should do.

Others have brought up things Kathy has said months ago, even years ago, to what end? Let it go.

Go back to page one. Right now, Kathy is looking like one of the more reasonable participants in this discussion.

Here is one of her posts that set me off !

"Btw, on that Punaweb topic, Poster Obie has a big bias because of his close friends who own or manage vacation rentals at Wai Opae, which is also where he lives."

And this one :

"Here is a local topic spurred by the headlines.

www.punaweb.org/Forum/topic.asp

The posts by csgray and hawaiideborah (posts 6&7) about vacation rental owners' choices not to disclose to visitors is interesting. (note: staph infection, not staff)."

Where is the Netiquette here ?

Read the entire story :

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g60...awaii.html

She claims she only responds because the topic keeps getting bumped !!
Why respond at all ???

How can one person have 29,179 posts and claim they are busy doing anything else ????????????

Obie - the cartoons were disgraceful, disgusting and humiliating. No reasonable person would think they were funny.
