Albezia Girdling tips
#11
Wow! Lots of great info and responses. Sounds like Milestone is quickest and permanent. Girdling a large number of even small trees would be a lot of time and muscle! Mahalo to all.

Royall. That is a great offer. I will phone you. We have a line of smallish albizias on one border of our property (couple inch trunks up to 6-8" trunks). Two lots away are some huge trees that seed our open area. We have three larger trees in the back of the acre, and access is not so easy but we've been cutting a path back there. Talk soon!

Your garlon or Ortho Max Poison Ivy will do the job on the smaller trees. I girdle and treat or chop 'em down and treat the stump. Milestone is best for the huge buggas.

Do these methods work for ironwoods? I am at war with these dang things. The morning after Iselle, they littered the road in front of me and blocked my exit from the driveway.

They grow way too easily. When less than 8 feet tall the trunks are no bigger than Christmas trees. Someone told me Crossbow. Will that work on smaller trees? Drill into them?

Almost certainly whatever food you ate this week involved the use of more pesticides than you would need in the amount of Milestone to do this tree. Crossbow is not anywhere near as effective. 4ml for a huge tree. It's pretty amazing. If there is any chance of it flowering between the time you girdle it and the time it dies, you potentially let hundreds more albizia start growing. I've used Milestone on ironwoods too. It doesn't work anywhere near as well on melochia, however.

Crossbow works and so would Ortho Max Poison Ivy. Since they are only 8 feet tall, you could chop 'em down and treat the stump. Drill would do the job too. I don't do Crossbow any more because I can't stand the smell.
