Orchidland price gouging
#11
Hey mimosa! I think you need to learn how to read just a little better before going off on a "I know it all" rant. And just for your information, I never used the words must have. Not once. And if you really can read, you will come to the conclusion that I was trying to think with my wallet by going to one store to buy all my items. I know where to buy promix for $48, not $62.50, so I did not buy it from orchidland.

I know where to buy propane for less than $5 a gallon so I did not buy it from orchidland. I was "simply" commenting on my shock to go to a store in between Pahoa and Keaau and see them raping prices.

Why was that so hard for you to process? Where did your little school child rant really come from?

When I see replies like yours, all I really see is a know it all typing blah blah blah.

Let me put a plug in for Village Propane, just up hill from Mountain View Mini-Mart. They just opened. Very courteous and friendly. $5.00/gal which I think is cheaper than most (saw a sign outside Hilo Propane that said $5.30).

Kai store gives senior discount 10 percent.Even Hilo propane does the same.
Even walmarts bottle exchange offer senior discount 10 percent. But they do not advertise this, you have to request the senior discount.
Island living - i guess my husband mis read your words,no where in your post did you say you did not purchase these items.
So on behalf of my husband and myself, our sincere apologies.

I was glad to see this happen...

Not to play the "development rant", but: they scored the only piece of available fee-simple commercial real estate in Mountain View that isn't "on the highway", then opened one of the few types of business that doesn't require extensive permitting. Clever.

Orchidland stopped trying to be competitive on propane about 2 years ago. I consider it convenience store propane.

To be fair, one needs to be careful before throwing out terms like "price gouging". Unless you know what their costs of obtaining propane, storing it, and paying to get it into your receptacle, you don't really know if it's "gouging" or not. Their propane prices have not (as far as I know) gone up since the June 27th lava scare. Their prices have been much higher than Pahoa propane etc for years.

purchased propane today mauka of the new above mentioned Village Propane in Mt. View. been a couple weeks since the last time i purchased. was surprised to see the price up here dropped from $6.25 to $5.00 / gallon.

question is, is this another of those periodic promotional temporary price reductions by the gas company, or just the store up here dropping their price to match the new competition in Mt. View? slipped my mind to ask at the store.
