And they are scientists? I think we should vote them off the island. The Subaru observatory should be decommissioned first. Only the best and brightest on Mauna Kea.

I was just about to say: "Wouldn't someone/anyone have heard a firearm being discharged up there?"

Don't know who the report of a bullet hole came from. Might have been a maintenance man.

Assume the best and ask questions.

Why Rob would you assume it was one of the few locals working atop maunakea? (Jokingly of course)

gypsy,
Rob didn't say it WAS a maintenance worker.
He said it MIGHT HAVE BEEN a maintenance man. That was in response to a comment saying the scientists made the call and therefor their telescope should be decommissioned.

This topic doesn't just jump to conclusions, it blasts off on a Saturn 5 rocket to conclusions.

I have to agree gypsy, Robert DeNiro is one talented actor. From his younger days in films like Taxi Driver where he starred opposite an even younger Jodie Foster. And speaking of Jodie Foster she went on to star in Contact, a movie you might enjoy about the search for extraterrestrial life.

(Spoilers Ahead)

One if her first jobs is at the SETI Institute in Puerto Rico where you'll hear plenty of coquis before they made their way to Hawaii. If only she had warned us.

Later, first radio contact is made with aliens through the large array radio telescope in New Mexico. You'll say to yourself, what the heck do they need all those telescopes for, pointed in the same direction? It must be for the good reception though, because the alien broadcast is clear enough for us to receive blueprints for a giant mysterious alien machine that costs $300 billion dollars. And those are 1990's dollars, which is a hefty chunk o' change. Think how many TMT's that could build! Fortunately they don't build the giant alien mystery machine in Hawaii, but I'll say no more.
