Hawaii will get reparations from the U.S. the day Italy gives reparations to England, Germany, France, Spain, et. al. for enslaving their peoples during the Roman Empire.
I'm astounded at the fantasy world some people seem to live in!
Gosh wouldn't it be nice if I got a pony for Christmas!!!
Italy, Germany, and Japan all paid reparations for their roles in WWII so it's not without precedent.

None of those games has Hawaii in it or are you just being silly?
No need to get all snarky.
I was just pointing out that reparations are a fantasy, and the best chance of getting reparations is in a fantasy world. Fantasy games make their own rules. In the real world, a world with a budget and a limited amount of money, reparations wouldn't even get past a committee hearing in the House or Senate.
A state of the United States of America going independent is a completely new thing.
A bunch of them tried it. In February of 1861 the Confederate States of America went independent.

I would think it would be the judicial branch which decides on the reparations. The CSA was a completely different matter. They were not granted independence to right a past wrong. Fantasy or not, this is only way I can see Hawaii ever gaining independence: If the US magnanimously granted it and if it did, reparations would follow. If Hawaii does something similar to the CSA, then I expect it to be cut off totally.

FYI, those were war reparations, which don't include annexation of land.
Two different things - hope this helps.

In addition, I am curious why you are so adamant that granting of independence automatically implies reparations. I see this as a non-sequitur.
Perhaps you could explain the logic of this line of reasoning to us. Thanks.

Germany annexed Austria and the Sudetenland. Japan annexed Manchukuo and Korea.

The only way Hawaii will gain independence is if the US allows it. In
order for this to happen attitudes will need to change in the US to be more in line with the sovereignty movement. It may take decades but if it did happen many would feel guilty and feel reparations would be just. Not like now.

The CSA was a completely different matter.
Every comparison will have differences. The time frame is different. The location is different. The people are different:
You can't step in the same river twice.
You can't go home again.
Time passes on. Things change.
... many would feel guilty and feel reparations would be just. Not like now.
Some people may feel guilt, but then ask them if their guilt is so great they want to pay higher taxes to provide reparations. Most likely they'd rather have a new hospital, road or park in their hometown. That is the choice they will have to face when you ask them to pay reparations.
Most reparations are paid when a country loses a war and the payment is forced. Very rarely is it offered, as in the case of Japanese interment detainees. And that was 50 years after the fact. The detainees also had direct personal losses, homes and businesses in their names were taken from them. Losses that could be categorized and tabulated, Western style.

Well yeah. That's why I think sentiments could change over time regarding sovereignty and reparations. They already have changed in the last 20 years. If more people jump onto this sovereignty bandwagon, things could change even more like is happening now with the TMT. These activists are getting worldwide attention and support now. I'm not saying it will or should happen this way though.

Hello Kitty has received worldwide attention and support, but i'm not saying she would or should be our Queen of the Kingdom just yet.
