The usual stuff just washes away after a month or so. I don't have a lot of grass, just a little for accent... Any suggestions?

Lots of different types of slow release fertilizer...
Important to not mow for several days after application and to not remove your lawn clippings as this will severely impact the amount of N released by the fertilizers. Urea-formaldehydes (UFs) Isobutylidene diurea (IBDUs) Sulfur-coated Urea (SCUs) Polymer coated nitrogen Liquid slow release (triazones) Hope this helps. Alohas

Do you have a reasonable amount of dirt below the grass? If so, I would recommend something like blood meal or feather meal, which will put a lot of nitrogen into the ground, which becomes "slow release" in the sense that the worms and other critters living in the ground take a while to convert the blood meal or feather meal into a nitrogen form that can be taken up by the grass roots.
If you don't have much dirt, however, I would worry that the blood meal or feather meal would just leach through. Generally, I am a big proponent of "feed the soil" as opposed to "feed the plant" - but here in Hawaii, there is the major caveat that there actually be soil. ;-)

Justin,
I had dirt brought in, but some rock is about 6" below the surface in some areas.

That sounds like a thick enough level at the top that I'd use blood or feather meal to help stimulate micro-organisms in the ground, which will be the ultimate slow release fertilizer.

The normal eye contact for two people engaged in conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time, in order to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking, to tell him that he is attentive. If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking, as if he tries to dominate you, you will feel disconcerted. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim, since he believes in the false idea that t look straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication. Quite the contrary.
