Introduce yourself
#81
My name is John Mark Minica (my friends generally call me Mark). My family and I are moving from Tacoma, WA to the BI in February. I am arriving Feb. 5th and my family will be following on the 28th. The plan is that I get there and get a house rented for us and everything set before they arive. I am a union carpenter and my wife is a phamacy technician. We have four kids: two 16 yr old boys, one 13 yr old boy, and a 10 year old girl. We hope to make our home on the east side, but it all depends on where we can find a big enough home. We want to spend our first year there looking around the island to decide where we want to buy. I'm a builder, so we might go that route if we can. I lived in Hawaiian Beaches in the late 80's-early 90's. Hawaii has never left my heart. I took my wife there for our honeymoon last summer and we stayed at an oceanfront house at chamagne ponds. It was amazing and, as planned, my wife was hooked as well.
If anyone has any information about any large rental homes available on the east side, please let me know.
I look forward to meeting you all.
Mahalo,
Mark

A fine Aloha welcome to Fred and Nora, all friends of Bill W and also Cat (glad you found us) from the Punatics.

You will find lots of info on this site for the east side. Occasionally on the west side forum if you posted an east side question it turned into a dog pile, so here all your questions are welcomed. We will share the good the bad and not just the ugly! LOL!!

Fred if you check out the all forum links at the top left of the page you will find another file with a group of threads about building on the east side.

This site is up an coming due to fine folks like you and our continuing members working on their adventure in all stages of development, design, and even dreaming.

So welcome and enjoy what we have to offer and feel free to share you knowledge, questions or even your dreams. Good fortune in 2006!

Aloha, Mella L

Good luck to you and the family. What an adventure! So jealous you'll beat us over and we've been planning it for over 18 months! Haha

Take care and much aloha to the Mark family.

Mahalo to all for the welcome and support! As much as I am nervous, I feel in my heart that it will all work out just fine. I have yet to "force" any part of this move, it's all just been working out so far. And so everyone knows, I'm always happy to lend a hand to my friends and neighbors who need a carpenter(or just a strong back to move big stuff).
Aloha,
Mark

Aloha John Rabi -

Yay, you're back! For those of you who don't know, John is a kickin' real estate broker on the Kona side. His Puna counterpart, Victoria Mauck, helped us buy our property in Orchidland - I highly recommend her - she really worked for us, and she's fun to boot. John, get her on this site, she'd be a great resource too!

I've already introduced myself on this forum but I thought this forum would be a good place to say I'm arriving tomorrow 1-4-06 for good. First order of business is to find a small place to stay that will accept me and my slightly middle aged cat. It's raining and about 45 degrees here in Seattle, I can almost feel the great tropical heat now!

Looking at the member info I find that I registered on 6/18/03. With the vastly expanded content I have been checking in more often.

We moved 3 years ago planning to build in HPP. We found a good fixer in Orchidland, sold our lot and have been here ever since.

Because the place is way bigger than the two of us need we were going to rent the lower unit to friends. We did that until the building department showed up one day (we had filed plans for a room addition) and told us we were illegal--only one kitchen allowed. Plan B became opening a bed and breakfast. After extensive remodel work and applying for a special use permit that is what we did.

We opened a year ago and got busy during the summer. We both work other part-time jobs (electrician and Kamahamaha substitue) but the B&B takes a lot of time. Look us up if you have freinds or family needing a place to stay.

Aloha Jerry and Markie

Time sure flies doesn't it? I remember 3 years ago and we met at Godmother's for dinner. A lot of water under the bridge since then Smile
We still hope to have our B&B one of these days, but still a ways to go. We'll have to look you up one of these days and please visit if and when you come this way.
