In a statement, Native Hawaiian Legal Corp. attorney David Kauila Kopper, who represented E. Kalani Flores in his lawsuit challenging the rules, said dropping the charges is the "right thing to do."
:However, it does not make up for the months on Mauna Kea that Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners and the public lost to the state's invalid rule," Kopper said.
Who makes up for the TMT construction crews' lost time?
Better question: who makes up for the loss of staff who couldn't afford to wait around until construction actually starts? Or does TMT pay all their salaries in the interim?

I think we should be careful here. We don't know for a fact that the fibre optics line was cut by the protesters. However, the amount of criminal activity, including vandalism, damage to property, intimidation and threats of violence suddenly shot up after the "protectors" arrived and camped out near the VIS. Even if this activity was not done by protesters, it's clear that the "protectors" did a pretty bad job at protecting the mountain from criminals and mindless thugs.

Tom, any idea how long the VIS folks were out of work? These are some of the most knowledgeable folks regarding not only the nights sky, but of Hawaiian's beliefs regarding the Mountain and the Heavens. It's a real shame they got dragged into this mess.

Funny, Pog! AK, I'm not certain, but I think all the VIS staff remained employed during its closure, although I know they were very close to laying people off at one stage.
