TMT Work to Resume Says Ige!
PS. I particularly enjoyed the reference to "clay Pidgin's". That made me giggle.

LOL ... Where to start ??? If Gypsy truly believes and is lamenting the things he listed are so important for his keiki, then I gotta believe:

1. He grew up someplace else.
2. Maybe should move back there.
3. He has problems beyond what is spoken.
4. Cannot travel more than 10 miles with his children.
5.Maybe he should get more involved and look around ... I.E. Pahoa Pool for example.
6.Wants things presented on a silver platter.

Creating an awesome water slide and teen dance just takes parental involvement.

I could go on and on but what for ,,,,

FYI
There is a novice swim team which practices at the Pahoa pool during the season, so you can take that off the long list of things the Pahoa kids don't have.

Given the the title of this thread it's amazing how little of substance there has been to report in the last several months.

Full size prototype of individual mirror assembly. There are 492 plus 82 spares, 100 blanks done so far. The electro-mechanical assembly under each one is gently flexing the glass for fine focus. All attention is on the observatory housing when it hasn't actually been proven all this technology is going to work together at this scale.

Although defocus is one optical aberration the segments are designed to correct, the others, which include astigmatism, coma and trefoil are all rather important. The correction for these aberrations has been successfully achieved at other telescopes using similar technologies, including the Kecks which are being used as a model for the TMT. The size of the telescope is relatively unimportant, it's the focal length that plays are larger role in how significant all these aberrations are. If it were just defocus, you wouldn't need to worry so much about bending the segments.
