I have not seen any recent dengue maps but I can assure you that new cases are happening everyday in Puna. At least two NEW cases of dengue have been confirmed on 12th st and Maku'u in paradise park over the last week, this makes five on that street. Also Two new cases have been confirmed very close to the Leilani park. Unfortunately there are still many people who are sick in puna and are NOT getting tested for dengue for various reasons.
Questions here. Would an Organic farm still be an Organic farm after being sprayed with these mosquitoe killing chemicals three times? Are vacant homes or vacant land close to confirmed cases being sprayed or ignored?

I've forgotten most of what I used to know about organic farming, but I do remember that when it comes raising poultry, you can use antibiotics and other chemicals so long as it's being used to treat illness instead of preventing it. I'm guessing there is an "out" for other farms as well when it comes to treatments mandated for a greater public good.
Well my best friend just moved his family off to the mainland to get away from this dengue virus outbreak. He and His son were diagnosed with dengue a few weeks back, they now have had their property sprayed three times to kill off the remaining mosquitoes. Unfortunately before they could leave the island another neighbor of theirs and his grandmother also recently caught this dengue virus.
This area of paradise park my friend has lived should probably be avoided because their has now been at least six confirmed cases of dengue within a 400 yard radius of their home. The property he lived on has been a mosquito breeding ground for the last decade, spraying alone won't change that. The vacant lots across from his are just as loaded with these infected blood sucking dengue carrying mosquitoes too.
Really hoping he and his family can heal from this dengue nightmare they have been experiencing for the past month in Hawaii, hopefully they can have a nice Christmas in Oregon.

If they had released the GMO mosquitos a few weeks ago nobody would be getting sick now.

Low blow Obie-one. Not a bit surprising that you could not offer anything constructive to yet another community concerned thread. Please Go back to defending this areas Geothermal production, GMO crops, and cops that run bikers over. Bitching and whineing more about old grandfathered cesspools, proper tourist parking, lower speed limits, or illegal lodging and unpaid taxes in your neck of the woods always works too.
My good friend had only the best intentions for his family of five that were living on this P.P property for the last two years. The owner of the property just passed away six months ago in a nursing home. She was adament about things remaining the same around her place until she did pass. The old paint cans, bottles, catfood cans, tires, garbage, waste, and five gallon buckets filled with standing water and mosquito larva are just buried beneath the over grown brush EVERYWHERE around this acre. I truly cant see how only the spraying method is going to be the answer to ridding the mosquitoes or dengue in that particular area of p.park, very concerning as this is only the beginning of Puna's dengue outbreak.
What would you suggest be done with this highly contagious dengue infected area in P.P. now Obie and Pog?
