Kenoi's personal finances will be under spotlight
#1
According to the Trib an FBI forensic accountant will be looking into Billy's private family finances. The judge has so ruled.

Hmmmm.

Assume the best and ask questions.

Makes you wonder what exactly they're looking for...
and what they'll find.

The way I read it is that the investigation has been done, and the prosecutors are simply asking the court's permission to allow the FBI to testify and explain the finances during the trial. I don't think they're actually asking for permission to carry out an investigation. Not a legal expert, so might be wrong.

"Deputy Attorney General Kevin Takata told Honolulu Circuit Judge Dexter Del Rosario, who’s hearing the case, that he plans to call the expert “to testify about the available money that Mayor Kenoi had at that time.”

“The lack of available funds to pay for personal purchases was an explanation of why the county pCard was used,” Takata said.

Any FBI scrutiny into Big Island politics is music to my ears. One can only wonder how big is Billy's can of worms.

Now it turns out Kenoi sold a bunch of land without reporting the sales, and by some amazing coincidence this happened right during the pCard trouble.

Kenoi told the Tribune-Herald in May 2009 the purpose of subdividing the lots wasn’t “development” but to provide for his family’s future and education. He reportedly said one lot would go to each of his children,

He sold off his children's inheritance, and their future. Blood is thicker than water, so we taxpayers shouldn't be surprised by the way we've been treated. And now, as he and his lawyers drag their feet, we'll provide him with a nice, fat, comfortable retirement fund for the rest of his days.

“We’ve got to be as clear-headed about human beings as possible, because we are still each other’s only hope,” James Baldwin to Margaret Mead in the book A Rap On Race

This "justification" tends to appear whenever a variance is being sought, usually accompanied by "how will they afford to live here otherwise".
