The video is interesting, but it doesn't answer these questions:

What do you do if you live on an isolated island, almost none of the primary care doctors are accepting new Medicare patients, and the "free" clinics that so accept Medicare are already overloaded?

What do you do if the specialists on this island that you need don't accept new Medicare patients?

Is basic Medicare going to pay for your emergency medivac transportation from said isolated island to the nearest facility that can save your life in a pinch?

There are not the sort of choices for obtaining good care here that would make the good doctor's advice in the video work for many of us. That is why Kaiser's bombshell announcement has so many people upset. Kaiser does have a positive answer to all my questions above . . . it's just going to cost a hell of a lot more.

One thing to consider is that if you aren't paying Kaiser nearly $200 a month ($2400/year), you can afford to fly yourself to Oahu for treatments once in a while. Or save up and fly to the mainland.

I am on Medicare w/plans B,C,D.
I consume about $1000 worth of meds a month.

to continue the logic of that video,
if you are healthy and don't take meds, you don't even need Medicare.

in the other Kaiser thread, Reni said that Mango medical is closing their Hilo clinic, so I guess it won't be accepting any more patients.

I drove by that place on accident (only way to "find" it)... I'm not surprised. Why they setup business in a place like that, will never understand. I think our vet would have turned it down as a location.

"Yeah, turn into Vernas, limp your lifted SUV over the busted up asphalt, then make a slight left past the cock fighting place, we're nestled into the rusty quonset looking shed thing".

On the other hand, Dr. Dundas's facility is clean, modern, you don't need a 4x4 to use the parking lot, and they are also accepting new medicare patients.
