Bit by dog in HPP
#31
I carry a 3 foot, half-inch aluminum rod cut 45 deg at both ends.
Lightweight but very effective and, if the situation calls for it, lethal.
Not as attention getting as carrying a little-league aluminum baseball bat, but just as effective.
We are not chew toys for dogs.

Both times we called the police in for dogs on the loose that bit my daughter, they came out and were quite helpful. And, the one time we called Humane Society (I mentioned above what happened), they sent someone out, picked up 2 of the 4 offending dogs and took them in. They then contacted the owners and told them if they wanted their dogs back, come on down and bring money to pay your fines. It was after they came and took the dogs that my neighbors found their 3 dead chickens and one of their coops ripped up. I had seen the dogs on their property before the killed our rabbit. So, my neighbors called the Humane Society, and I bet they added more money to the fine.

The dog owners had been told many times that their dogs were getting out during the day when they were at work. Never seemed to care. After the fines, they finally did something. Haven't seen these dogs loose since.

So, it's on the record that these dogs had been out killing peoples animals. I like dogs too, and have owned my share. But, I can't afford a fence on my acre, and I will not get a dog here because of the danger of the dog causing problems. I require the same consideration from others. I've been chased many times here riding my bicycle. Once by 4-5 loose dogs that ran out of the same OPEN GATE. Once I had to get off my bike, and use it for a shield down on lower Kaloli near Beach road.
My daughter was bit 4 times the night that pitbull went nuts here on 23rd. That dog also bit my neighbor a few minutes later. I'm just glad a little kid didn't walk by that night.
