It that true about the traffic light? Was the shop owner demanding the light? How do you know this? A traffic light is needed there. its a precarious situation, pulling out onto the Hwy [/q Are you referring to Orchidland drive? Because the permit in 2005 was for 3 lots at the corner of Auli'i Drive. I don't think the county even considered a light before they approved Orchidland Center.

A McDonalds on the other hand might back up all the way to the roundabout. That's the monster we don't want. But seriously, a Dominos would do well there. Especially if they delivered to my address in Orchidland. Wait- is it too late to add a Costco to my wish list?

Domino's first appeared when I was in college. In order to meet their half hour delivery time, it usually came to the door just slightly warm and doughy. We used to put the pizza in the box on top of the wood stove, and when the box started turning brown on the edges, ready to ignite, the pizza was done and just slightly more palatable.
Now I look back, and avoid the fast food places as the dietary needs of a person is not there, it only fills the void of hunger and seems to cause weight gain and medical complications. But of course, this is my take on it. Community begins with Aloha

Domino's... only fills the void of hunger and seems to cause ... medical complications.
So then, another business opportunity for one of the units in the shopping center. An after dinner, possibly 24 hour Urgent Care medical office? “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen

Although I generally avoid the place, I found myself unavoidably having to eat at the Panda Express in Hilo earlier this year. (Dear friends visiting from America insisted.) They actually had two or three things on that vast steam table that were not only tasty, but not nutritional disasters. I knew there was hope when they answered "yes" when I asked for brown rice. The other 90% of their offerings looked pretty bad, though.
As for the construction schedule on that new shopping center, all I can say is they are either utterly unrealistic, bringing in their own construction company from the mainland, have a cousin in the Building Department, or all three of the above.

I'm hoping for the "good" combo: Starbuck's, Noah's Bagels, Una Mas, Jamba Juice. back up all the way to the roundabout We're getting that anyway: growth in Puna is adding more traffic than will fit the available roads.
