TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo
Too expensive. It's already been scaled down due to costs, as was the ELT in Chile.

"Mauna a W#257;kea (Mountain of W#257;kea) is the name given breath to by the ancestors because the summit region of this mountain stands majestically above the cloud stratum into the heavenly realms of W#257;kea(Sky Father) who is personified in the atmosphere that envelops
Papah#257;naumoku (Earth Mother). It is a sacred landscape, also known as Mauna a Kea or Mauna Kea, that provides a genealogical, physical, and spiritual connection between Ke Akua (The Creator), ancestral realms, and kanaka (humans). It is a piko (portal) for life forces and energies to flow into these islands that requires a pristine environment free of any physical and spiritual obstructions. HO's FOFs 361-423, Exhibit A-122.

Mauna a W#257;kea has long been regarded as an extremely sacred place in Ka Pae #699;Aina o
Hawai#699;i (the Hawaiian Islands) by Native Hawaiians of the past and still remembered and
cherished by those today, and it has been, and continues to be used as a place to conduct
traditional and customary practices. Mauna Kea remains a place of significant worship for
Hawaiians, as well as non-Hawaiians. HO's FOFs 361-423, A-122.

Mauna a W#257;kea or Mauna Kea represents many things to the Native Hawaiian peoples
and to many peoples from around the world. The upper regions of Mauna Kea are situate in Wao
Akua, the realm of na akua and aumakua, considered elementals in the Hawaiian world view . It
is also considered the Temple of the Supreme Being and is acknowledged as such in many oral
histories and written histories throughout Polynesia which predate modern science by millennia.
It is home of N#257; Akua (the Divine Deities), N#257; `Aum#257;kua (the Divine Ancestors) and it is the
meeting place of Papa (Earth Mother) and W#257;kea (Sky Father) who are considered the
progenitors of the Hawaiian People. It is said Mauna Kea is where the Sky and Earth separated
to form the Great-Expanse-of-Space and the Heavenly Realms. Mauna Kea in every respect represents the zenith of the Native Hawaiian peoples ancestral ties to Creation itself. HOF's
FOFs 361-423.

There's absolutely no mention of the Spaghetti Monster (His blessed Noodliness) and the requirements of the most sacred Pastafarian religion to use the telescopes to not only watch for His return, but it's an ideal place to spot and count rare pirates because we can't let this go on much longer, our existence is at stake.

The blessed and most venerable Noodliness, the most Sacred Spaghetti Monster, has spoken. Buon Appetito (Amen).

So the most up to date info based on carbon dating has humans discovering Hawaii only 1,000 years ago but Mauna Kea has been known throughout Polynesia for millennia? Riiiight. And although Hawaiians from the Big Island, Oahu, Maui, and Kauai all fought each other, Polynesians from all over Polynesia agreed that one spot on Hawaii Island was special? Riiiight. Scientology is a cult but anything a vocal minority of fanatical "native" people throw together to meet their immediate needs is not? Riiiight.

The TMT project may include many other smaller projects and development after it is built. For instance, If a million tourists a year start to visit the TMT site or summit of Mauna Kea then they may feel the need for things like high altitude helicopter landing pads in case of emergencies.
Helicopters could disrupt a sensitive and fragile environment, Helicopters also could be very annoying for Hawaiian Practitioners and wildlife like birds. The military on Saddle road may want to train some of their pilots for high altitude landings or flying. In our near future we may see other helicopter accidents like this one happen on or around our once peaceful, calm white mountain.

If a million tourists a year start to visit

Sources, studies? Let's start with ... having enough lodging for them all?

Helicopters could disrupt a sensitive and fragile environment

People have been making that complaint for years, and guess what? Federal, State, and local authorities don't care.

Kalakoa - don't even bother. This has been brought up before and was thoroughly debunked. Once again, Gypsy is just bringing things up that have already been answered.

I called 1-800-PROTECTORS today and they said 2 million cars a year on the gravel road to the summit. Do I hear 3 million? Why not 4 as long as we're pulling rabbits out of a hat?

"Nothin' up my sleeve."
"Oh, Bullwinke."

The Donner Party really wasn't that great of a party, was it?

I'll go with half the population of the planet. Every year. That way each half can visit on alternate years.

Have you calibrated for leap years? That's like an extra million visitors, right there.
